Falling for Wine

By: Anthony Gismondi
2015 is looking good across the Okanagan Valley

A quick visit in and out of the northern Okanagan Valley this weekend revealed three interesting notes.

Visitor numbers are up 20 to 30 percent at wineries this summer as tourists flocked to wine country. The 2015 harvest is now well along the timeline and depending upon the latitude of your fruit you could be anywhere from 30 to 60 percent finished. Finally the early start and the long warm growing season has created some unusual site specific conditions that have some red grape varieties ripening before some whites. So far most of the fruit looks fabulous with the only issues likely being higher alcohol levels and possibly lower acidities but even this could change over the next month. Meanwhile we continue to fine tune our website launching The Library on GOW, previewing the BC Winegrowers Series, and posting hundreds of reviews in August and September.
