San Juan wine shop: How can we help?

By: Anthony Gismondi
BC wine boycott raises local awareness of Salish Sea ecosystem.

Have you ever heard of the Doe Bay Wine Company?

I hadn’t until this week when they sent me note asking how they might be able to help the BC Wine Industry sell some wine during the Alberta boycott and beyond. Every cloud has a silver lining, I guess.

Co-owner Cole Sisson explained “My wife and I own a Wine Shop on Orcas Island in the San Juan Islands and have been following the recent Alberta ban with much interest. I grew up on this island, in the middle of the Salish Sea, and this proposed pipeline expansion would cut directly through our pristine region.”

We would like to begin highlighting BC wines at our Shop in an attempt to raise additional awareness of this issue in our county and state. We think we can garner some very positive and favorable media attention to this cause and support your wineries through sales.

We look at your province as extended members of our village and community. Your waters surround ours (we are north of Victoria) and we believe this issue has the ability to negatively impact our lives. We want to help.

Can you please let us know if there are individuals at the local or national level we should reach out to and any other suggestions, or resources, you may have as we prepare for this focus.”

How about that?

Over to you BC wine producers. You can contact Cole Sisson at cole@doebaywinecompany.com. Wine drinkers can support them at www.doebaywinecomnpany.com.
