Top 10 : Back to School

By: Treve Ring & Anthony Gismondi
Drinking smartly on back-to-school budgets

Brr - feel that?

That chill in the night air is not only caused by autumn's impending arrival, but by the collective sigh of all the students heading back to school next week (plus the collective sigh of relief of the parents of students heading back to school). Whether you're headed off to college, or paying for your near-adults to head to post-secondary, or sending your child to elementary, middle, or high school, September is a crunch month, financially. From rucksacs to tuition, school is expensive. It doesn't mean you have to sacrifice your wine drinking; it just means you should drink smartly, on a budget. Here are 10 of our favourite wines under $20 (somewhere in BC) that are ideal for seeing out the end of summer holidays and stocking for the school year.

Every week Treve Ring and Anthony Gismondi collaborate on our Top Ten list, released on Thursday morning, often with a timely theme. If you count carefully the list will more than likely exceed ten names but only because we believe if any wine is tied by a score that makes our list it should be included. We know many of you are wine savvy and can do your own sleuthing to locate our weekly picks but for those who asked: BCLS means it is sold in government retail stores; when we say private wine shops we mean it could be in any private wine shop or liquor retail store (LRS); winery direct means check with the winery online. If it’s not sold in BC we usually try and give you a suggested retail price. Prices change hourly in BC – the price we post is what we are given at publication.
