Stag's Hollow Grenache 2012

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaIn a region that at times can be scorching hot and sometimes miserably cool comes a rare grenache. The style reminds me more of the Spanish garnacha interpretation than its cross border French cousin. The colour is pleasingly red but not near dark. The attack is both sweet and fresh blending ripe fruit with bright acidity. The textures and tannins are temperate and gentle, a la tempranillo, but flavourful and persistent with a touch of heat in the finish. More red fruit than dark but with a very consistent south Okanagan savoury, sagebrush, spice underbelly. Impressive. You can drink it now but I would wait six to twelve months to let it all settle into place. Classic roast chicken with garlic and lemons would be affine match.Tasted: 20 September 2013Tasted by: Anthony Gismondi and Stuart TobePrices:
