CedarCreek Platinum Block 5 Chardonnay 2012

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaWhen I first opened this wine, wild yeast fermented and via low intervention winemaking, it was so joltingly earthy/lavender/plastic that I let it air - for a full day - before I attempted again. The second time was easier to get into, though still certainly singular. Lush wilting blossoms, ripe pear, baby powder and vanilla pudding aromas. Vanilla, cream, pear and pineapple compote fill the voluminous palate, gaining focus with a grapefruit/lemon citrus note and trailing off with a lengthy hint of spiced butterscotch and buttered popcorn. The wine comes together when it's not fully chilled - at a cool temperature all the components stick out, but as it warms up a bit the corners blur and the whole rounds and merges. By the end of the tasting, we were good friends. A complex wine that deserves time to adjust to air and get into, not a casual sipper. Pour alongside sablefish or richer poultry dishes.Tasted: 28 March 2015Tasted by: Prices:
