Concha y Toro Carmin de Puemo Carmenere 2011

Puemo, Valle del Cachapoal, Valle del Rapel, Region del Valle Central, ChileThis is one great bottle of wine. A blend of vineyards Blocks 27 & 32; the Carmenere comes of the Peumo Vineyard in the Rapel Valley; the cabernet sauvignon form the Pirque Viejo Vineyard and the petite verdot and cabernet franc from the Puente Alto Vineyard in the Maipo Valley, Chile. The wine is aged in 100 percent new, medium toasted French oak for 20 months and then spends a minimum 12 additional months in bottle prior to release. The wine is inky black with a fragrant, floral, rich black fruit nose of the kind you don’t associate with most commercial carmenère. The attack is similar with more sweet plummy, black fruits and a powerful savoury, resiny, chocolate notes. This wine was built for a decade in the bottle to showcase its power elegance and complexity. Lamb would be my choice if you had to open it now.
