Yalumba Old Bush Vine Grenache 2014

Barossa Valley, South Australia, AustraliaThe last time I tasted the 2014 was 18 months ago, so was happy to revisit this special Yalumba red. Old Barossa bush vine grenache, from vines planted between 1898 and 1972, were crushed as separate parcels, mostly destemmed, and utilize wild yeast to kick off fermentation. Some bunches were left on skins for three months, after which all went to barrel for maturation. An alluring, lifted floral note leads throughout, with perfumed plum, fresh cassis and wild blueberry that stretches along the palate. An herbal mustard seed note that I always get in this particular wine is still strong, here joined by highly perfumed iris and a fine dusting of white pepper. Tannins are finely sticky, in perfect proportion to the density of the fruit. Tasting lovely now, and will continue to hold for a few years yet.Tasted: 13 February 2017Tasted by: Prices:
