Luigi Scavino Azelia Barolo 2011

Piedmont, ItalyThe pairing of Castiglione Falletto’s calcareous soil and the heavier clay soils of Serralunga d’Alba fruit brings the magic here as the Scavino family blends six separate plots from two villages that are on average 45 years old. The nose is beautiful with soft intense aromas of cherries and black licorice. The tannins are rich but fruity, the attack chalky with persistent floral, cherry, cranberry liquorice flavours. Like the last time balance and harmony are at the centre of this dense soft modern Barolo. Impressive styling. The wine spends two years in large casks. Average production: 26,400 bottles, 600 magnums.Tasted: 03 November 2015Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
