Fielding Estate Chosen FEW 2012

Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaThis big Niagara Peninsula red is a blend of cabernet franc, syrah and cabernet sauvignon, and is only the second vintage of Chosen FEW, a follow up to the warm and ripe 2007. Chosen from their best barrels, this is made in small quantities from select (I assume quite warm) vintages. The wines were vinified and aged for eighteen months in new and older oak barriques, and then blended and bottled without fining or filtration. This leads with big smoked wood and toasted branch. Smoked earth, ink, dark chocolate cedar and tart black cherry ride ragged cedar wood tannins to a bitter espresso finish. Overt oak overwhelms the fruit at this youthful stage, though should integrate more with a couple of years further rest. Decant now and pair with lamb or big beef dishes.Tasted: 02 August 2016Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
