Hillside Syrah 2014

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaA year down the road, this wine has improved a lot in bottle. This is sourced from nearby Hidden Valley Vineyard, just south of the winery and another prime Naramata Bench site. The nose is an attractive mix of floral, finely-ground black pepper and ripe red and black fruits. This syrah is all about elegance and finesse, from its fine-grained tannins to its juicy fruit flavours. Winemaker Kathy Malone cold soaks the fruit for 17 days before fermenting the grapes in small stainless vats. It gets nine months gentle aging in French oak; only 15 percent is new. The style is fresh, the alcohol barely 13.5 percent, and there is plenty of acidity. Elegant, round and forward, this could be drunk over the next three to four years. Try it with grilled lamb chops.Tasted: 11 October 2017Tasted by: Prices:
