Sandhill Master Winemaker Howard Soon Chardonnay Single Block Sandhill Estate Vineyard 2014
Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis new chardonnay from Sandhill master winemaker is a single block selection of 18-year-old fruit that, according to Soon, offers a true expression of the site. The fruit is all hand-harvested and hand-sorted and is aged in stainless steel tanks and two French oak barrels for 10 months. The style is opulent with smoky, toasted nutty aromas with slices of pear and baked apple. The attack is rich, but there is a central core of fresher fruit to keep the wine centred and balanced. It’s the Howard Soon style to be sure, but it tells its own story.
