Joseph Phelps Pinot Noir Freestone Vineyards 2013
Sonoma Coast, Sonoma County, California, United StatesTasted twice now, a year apart, and this cool, calm, collected pinot noir remains on track. The nose is an understated, aromatic pomegranate, cran-cherry affair with bits of spice. The attack is silky smooth with more cran-cherry, dried herbs and bits of mint in the background. The texture is spot on and balanced. Nearing its peak it should remain on this plateau through 2020. Freestone is 100% estate-grown pinot from Freestone Vineyards (51% Quarter Moon Vineyard and 49% Pastorale Vineyard) - it is all Sonoma Coast.
