Boekenhoutskloof Semillon 2007

Franschhoek Valley, Paarl, Coastal Region, South AfricaAged semillon can be a thing of remarkable beauty, especially when some of the vines are 100 years old. Boekenhoutskoof was established 1776, and have a long tradition of making quality semillon in Franschhoek. Maverick Marc Kent is the winemaker, showing his skills here by a fresh pop of 8 percent sauvignon blanc into the blend, one that was fermented in cement before thirteen months in new French oak. The honeyed oilslick of semillon with some age is alluring here, along with quince paste, honeysuckle and tangerine pith. The lanolin-lined palate is gently lifted with a stream of potent citrus acidity through a lengthy finish. Not inexpensive, but a lovely opportunity to taste a rare wine that will continue to build with age.Tasted: 28 October 2016Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
