CedarCreek Platinum Desert Ridge Single Vineyard Meritage 2013

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis wine is a conundrum. It opens with floral, attractive red fruit aromas and similar upfront juicy, red fruit palate and then boom, the 58 percent cabernet sauvignon kicks in and firms up the mid-palate and back end leaving it almost a bit tight. The cabernet sauvignon along with 22 percent cabernet franc, 14 percent merlot and six percent malbec all comes off a particularly stony, spare section of Desert Ridge Vineyard in Osoyoos to add some needed tension and complexity. Don’t let the red fruitcake flavours fool you, this wine needs another six to eight years in bottle but it has the structure and finesse to go the length of time required for it to blossom. A perfect fall red for mushroom risotto, or Bistecca alla Fiorentina. Well done.Tasted: 10 October 2016Tasted by: Prices:
