Quails' Gate The Connemara Merlot Cabernet Sauvignon Cabernet Franc 2014

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis is the inaugural vintage of The Connemara, the premium Bordeaux blend from Quails' Gate, and named in honour of the Stewart family’s grandfather's favourite place in Ireland. The ten best barrels make up this vintage. The mix: 55 percent merlot, 30 percent cabernet sauvignon, 15 percent cabernet franc, was fermented wild before spending 18 months in French oak and then bottled unfiltered. At this youthful stage, the oak is still coating the black cherry, blackberry, cola and graphite-scented ripe fruit. Tannins have the smoky barrel grip that will yield with cellaring, while the mouthfeel is silken, polished and very welcoming now. The best years are ahead, but you can easily enjoy now with a decant and herb roasted young lamb.Tasted: 10 October 2016Tasted by: Prices:
