Tolaini Valdisanti Tenuta S. Giovanni 2010

Castelnuovo Berardenga, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyThe Valdisanti Toscana IGT is a super Tuscan red that mixes 75 percent cabernet sauvignon with 20 percent sangiovese and 5 percent cabernet franc. Owner Pier Luigi Tolaini says it is the finest cabernet franc in all of Italy. This is an impressive wine that starts with perfect structure and tension and walks the taster through a series of highlights. Superb dark fruit aromas preview similar flavours of black raspberries and cherries with a dusting of leather and cocoa. The tannins are dense, fine grained and silky à la Michel Rolland. It’s a mouthful at the moment but this will live through 2025 and as it mellows will become an elegant, Euro red. Osso buco is the choice today or an aged pecorino.
