Braida di Giacomo Bologna il Bacialé 2012

Piedmont, ItalyThis is a blend of barbera, pinot noir, cabernet sauvignon and merlot, from Piemonte's Monferrato. In the Piemonte dialect, Il Baciale translates as matchmaker, the person who arranged marriages between members of noble families in the area, and this wine marries local barbera with French grapes. Dusky blackberry, potent leather, sweet cassis, grilled meats and thorns drawn across youthful, gritty tannins to a bitter cherry and cinnamon finish. A juicy swell on the medium bodied palate helps mitigate the rusticity, though the frisky acidity and bitter finish is best suited to hearty sausages.Tasted: 10 February 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
