Emandare Vineyard Marechal Foch 2014

Cowichan Valley, Vancouver Island, British Columbia, CanadaEmandare sits on a south-facing terraced hillside tucked beside Cowichan Valley's Mount Prevost. All of their wines are estate grown, and dry farmed organically, with minimal intervention. The dark cherry hue is mirrored on the tight, fresh palate, along with wild blackberries and a bitter cherry, cinnamon bark twist on the finish. Fourteen year old marechal foch was splashed with 14 percent cabernet foch, all destemmed and wild ferment before a year in neutral French oak. Tannins are smooth and fine, and acidity has a gently buoyant swell. This was bottled without fining or filtration, leaving a lingering pleasant texture. An impressive showing for a risky project, and a pleasant and highly drinkable view of marechal foch, so often overworked and unpleasant.Tasted: 01 February 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
