Nielson by Byron Pinot Noir 2014

Santa Maria Valley, Santa Barbara County, Central Coast, California, United StatesThe Nielson Vineyard, located in the eastern foothills of the Santa Maria Valley, lies just south of the famous Bien Nacido Vineyard. It boasts mature vines of carefully selected clones of pinot noir planted by Uriel Nielson back in 1964. Today it is owned by Jackson Family Estates. The wine is aged 15 months in French oak, thankfully only 15 percent is new. This is unabashed California pinot noir with black cherries and smoky cinnamon, clove notes. The palate is rich and the fruit dense, with similar smoky, black cherry fruit flavours. All the blocks are harvested separately to allow the winemaker a wide choice of flavours and styles. The use of ten percent whole cluster keeps the wine fresh and juicy. Delicious drinking style that’s fun now with grilled chicken or salmon.Tasted: 02 February 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
