Domaine Queylus La Grande Réserve Pinot Noir 2013

Niagara Peninsula, Ontario, CanadaLa Grande Reserve Pinot Noir is a barrel selection from the eastern flanks of two Niagara vineyards, farmed organically, but not certified. One is in Lincoln Lakeshore, the other, on the Beamsville Bench. The style is the most "old world" of Domaine Queylus' three pinots, that is to say, the most savoury, leathery, and least fruit-driven. Destemmed and fermented wild, it spent 16-20 months in French oak (1/3 new). Only the very best barrels make it to Le Grande Reserve, what Bachelder terms “the most elegant, harmonious, complex and ageable. Look for forest berries, forest floor and perfumed raspberries scent this ripely cushioned, age-worthy wine, one that glides along lengthy, silken, lightly grippy tannins to a lightly spiced, dry finish. Drinking well now, this still has years to go in the cellar. Total production was 480 six-packs.Tasted: 18 May 2017Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
