Paolo Bea Pagliaro 2008

Umbria, Italy100 percent sagrantino from Italy's iconic / iconoclastic naturalist Paolo Bea. The organically farmed Pagliaro vineyard sits at 1300 feet in altitude, and planted mostly to this revealed local grape, sagrantino. A long ferment with wild yeast (up to 50 days) precedes aging for one year in stainless, two additional years in large Slavonian oak, and then one more year (unfiltered) in bottle. This is alive, fresh and youthful for 2008, with worn leather, sapid branch, salts, and a fine tug and grip around the sides of the dense, medium bodied palate. Tight knit and confidently unyielding, you have to work your way into this wine, an untamed beaut. Texture stretches the length to the lingering, drying finish, matched by a bristling, earthy mineral acidity. Layers and layers of flavours, best enjoyed over a few hours (or couple of days).Tasted: 24 May 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
