Château de Rayne Vigneau 2009

Sauternes, Graves, Bordeaux, FranceDeep honey, orange blossom, overripe pear in this concentrated sauternes from Château de Rayne, classified a Grand Cru Classé in 1855. The 84 ha estate encompasses the third highest point in the area after Yquem, and the soils, mainly gravel and sand with clay subsoil, are surprisingly rich in agates, amethysts, onyx, and even sapphires. This potent, elegant wine pours a shining, deep golden hue, and coats the palate with honeyed richness and the characteristic botrytis ash. Light smoke echoes on the finish. A stunner, and reason to buy Sauternes now, and sit on it for a decade or more, as it will age beautifully. The blend in '09 is 80/20 sémillon/ sauvignon blanc.Tasted: 08 June 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
