Little Engine Gold Merlot 2015

Naramata Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaHefty bottle aside (please, just no), this premium, youthful merlot was sourced from three Naramata Bench vineyards, one of which owned by the winery. Potent and dense, this very certainly spent 100 percent of its life in oak. The 2015 was in barrel for sixteen months (63 percent new) without racking until blending, unfiltered. In contrast to the 2014, this is full-throttle, bold and woody, led by baking spices, potent dark cassis, blackberry, tobacco. You feel every inch the 15 percent alcohol and density of fruit, working diligently to match up to the wood. For all its potency and confidence, this is a well balanced, highly youthful wine that will show much better in the teen years (with five years cellaring) when it calms some. At present, please decant, and pair appropriately.
