Nik Weis St. Urbans-Hof Wiltinger Alte Reben 2016

Mosel, GermanyAll St Urbans-Hof dry wines bear a white label, not to mention an electric opening of freshness in the mouth. The Weiss family are third generation winegrowers and the second largest family owned and operated winery in the Mosel. Wiltinger is a "village" wine but don’t be fooled. The fruit comes off the 22-acre parcel known as Schlangengraben, a south facing site over red slate well-suited to its ‘Alte Reben’ or old vines planted in the 1930s. Intensely herbal and salty, it smells like a fresh low tide, with green apple and peach flecks throughout. There is some sweetness trying to break through, but it's held intact by the salty minerality. Beautiful balance and Mosel finesse.Tasted: 06 July 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
