Champagne Drappier Blanc de Blancs Brut NV

Champagne, FranceThe Drappier family has been farming Champagne since 1808, with 100ha, mostly around the village of Urville (pinot noir country). This blanc de blancs has a twist: 5 percent pinot blanc (also known as blanc vrai), to give it a bit of floral creamy roundness on the palate. The house use of minimal sulphur and 2-3 years sur lattes post bottling is signature, as is their aging of the liqueurs d’expédition in oak casks, then in demijohns for more than 10 years for concentration and added complexity. This brut is crisp and bright, with a doughy, yeasty, lees-lined cushion on the palate. There's a faint mushroom funkiness atop red apple, subtle pink florals, but bright and brisk acidity, snappy on the finish.Tasted: 09 August 2017Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
