Owen Cabernet Franc 2011

Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaFrom the cellar. Owen was a 100 case run from Okanagan Crush Pad's Okanagan Wine Campus Program, which was awarded to the Vancouver Sommelier of the Year. For Owen Knowlton, the well-deserved recognition came in 2011. And what did he pick? Cabernet Franc, from Cerqueira Vineyard. This shows cab franc's massive potential in BC. This has worn its years very well, with burnished cassis, dark plum, wild blackberry, thorns, with supple, worn and earthy tannins. There's still a grippy tannic frame, but it is slight and yielding to the mustard seed finish. Acidity is bright, body is moderate (13.6% and reflective of the cool vintage) and drinkability is now.
