Raen Winery Freestone Occidental Bodega Vineyard Pinot Noir 2015

United StatesIn the case of Freestone – Occidental bottling you simply get pure finesse. The intense dark red fruits boast a ridiculously silky texture that slides across the palate and melts in your mouth. Long and persistent in flavour the finish is equally light and airy, yet intense. Bodega Vineyard sits among the redwoods, wild flowers, coastal oaks near the town of Freestone. Cool calm and sophisticated this is star bottle of California pinot noir. Carlo and Dante Mondavi have deep roots in the wine business, influenced from a very young age by their father Tim Mondavi and their grandfather Robert Mondavi. Tim Mondavi was a pinot pioneer back in the 1970s and as good as some of those wines were, well to hack an old phrase, you ain’t seen nothing yet. My initial tasting of the Raen (Research Agricultural Enology Naturally) wines was so exciting at first I thought maybe these wines may have been from somewhere else. All three labels use the same techniques (The ferment is 75% whole cluster using native yeasts and the juice ages 10 months in neutral 60-gallon French oak before its bottled without fining or filtration) to put the emphasis on place.Tasted: 25 August 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
