GermanyThis Mosel property has over 400 years of wine history, and has been overseen by Rudi Hermann since 1967and now with his son Christian. This plays the sweet / sharp / salty trifecta well, even in its joyous and exuberant youth from ungrafted vines, 10 to 40-years-old on steep sandstone, and grey/blue slate vineyards in Erdener Herrenberg, Kinheimer Rosenberg and Lösnicher Försterlay,. Fermented in stainless to preserve crispness, it is concentrated but light on its feet, off-dry with ripe pear, honey, white peach countered by electric acidity and harnessed through a streamlined frame. The 46 g/l RS is well-handled by the acidity (TA 9.3), finishing with an addictively easy 9.5 percent alcohol. A beauty, and as one of the "entry tier" from the house, you know that the quality and precision only goes up from here.
