Clos du Soleil Signature 2014

British Columbia, CanadaAs the name implies, Signature is the calling card of this Similkameen winery, and the flagship blend of the house. The big five Bordeaux red grapes: cabernet sauvignon, merlot, petit verdot, cabernet franc and malbec, made it into the 2014, sourced from the estate vineyard as well as in nearby Cawston. Each variety and each vineyard block is harvested separately at optimal maturity. It’s gently destemmed, crushed, and fermented after a moderate cold-soak. More than half of the lots used only native fermentations to reinforce terroir expression. After a gentle pressing, the wines were barrel aged for 17 months in 100 percent French oak barrels. Ripe, savoury cassis, black cherry, black plum, anise, scrubby thorns is perfumed with blueberry and violets, and sided with grippy tannins that coax and guide the wine to the lingering finish (bottled unfined and unfiltered). Elegance and authenticity throughout, with surprising depth at this youthful age. This is drinking well now, benefitting from pairing with pork or lamb, but will reward more with short term cellaring.Tasted: 07 December 2017Tasted by: Treve Ring & Anthony GismondiPrices:
