Falernia Carmenère Reserva 2015

Valle del Elqui, ChileWinemaker Giorgio Flessati, is a Trentino native but an unabashed Elqui Valley crusader these days. This Reserva is handpicked very late in the season with some 60 percent of the grapes going through an appassimento or drying on the vines. After fermentation 60% of the juice is aged in premium American oak for 8 months. It’s not overly herbaceous as carmenere in Chile can be, and it’s sporting a touch of Brettanomyces, but the round, fat, sweet, fruit flavours and low acidity are not as fashionable in 2017. Best served with grilled meat, slow braised pork dishes and meaty pasta dishes.Tasted: 04 December 2017Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
