Painted Rock Merlot 2014

Skaha Bench, Okanagan Valley, British Columbia, CanadaThis Skaha merlot is settling into its vineyard, and in 2014 was aged 18 months in 30 percent new French oak. Not the finesse we saw last year and at 15.3 percent alcohol you could say it’s a bit of a brute. The nose is reductive with meaty notes before the black fruit and strong savoury flavours kick in. Time is what is required here to let all the various parts blend in and the wood tannins to dissipate. You can tackle it now with T-Bone or wait for some bottle ageing to kick in and check back in 2021.Tasted: 16 December 2017Tasted by: Prices:
