Damilano Barbera d'Asti 2020

Langhe, Cuneo, Piedmont, ItalyDamilano has deep roots in Piedmont, from 1890 when Giuseppe Borgogno started cultivating and producing wine from the grapes in his vineyards. The Barbera d’Asti doesn’t have those kinds of roots at Damilano. Barbera d’Asti is a mere babe, having been first made in 2008. Still, Damilamno signed an agreement to manage grapes from an 11-hectare vineyard in Casorzo in the province of Asti, an area where Barbera has grown since the 1800s. This Barbera hails from vines 20 to 30 years old in the white marl soils of Monferrato vineyard. Bright red with a touch of brick at the edge, this wine elevates itself on your palate, shouting class and complexity. Lightly spiced, it offers an ethereal mix of red currants, cherries, and violets on a silky long palate. You hardly feel the 14 percent alcohol without food. This is a real wine. Raw beef is the match.Tasted: 15 March 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
