Luce Brunello di Montalcino 2017

Montalcino, Siena, Tuscany, ItalyGiven its position in Montalcino, the Luce Brunello is a latecomer to the Montacino mix. It comes off a small, select block of vines inside the 88 hectare estate at higher elevation. The grapes come off some of the higher, cooler sites planted to sangiovese over sandstone and limestone. It’s aged a year in primarily old Slavonian oak, with only 10% new oak in the mix, helping to expose the terroir and impressive fruit. In 2017, the wine was slightly more advanced, although, despite an elegant chassis, some sticky tannins in the back end will require 3 to 5 years to settle down. Look for a drier style with peppery, spicy red fruit and a dry finish. Drink or hold.Tasted: 31 October 2023Tasted by: Anthony GismondiPrices:
