La Quercia Montepulciano d'Abruzzo 2020

Abruzzo, ItalyLa Quercia is run by four friends (Elisabetta, Antonio, Luca, and Fabio) who met while working at a big winery in the late 1980s. In 2000, the quad came together and purchased a small winery where they had previously served as consultants. They now have 46 hectares spread across various areas. This is organically farmed (some dry-farmed) montepulciano at 210m, in clay soils. It was fermented in stainless, where it remained 6 months until bottling. There's a lovely wild herb savouriness to this lighter red, with dried thyme and oregano imbuing the fleshy dark plum, subtle cassis, and dark cocoa on the medium palate. Tannins are furry and a bit sticky, and acidity is lofted, both welcoming a ragu or grilled sausages.Tasted: 06 November 2023Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
