Perticaia Montefalco Sagrantino 2015

Umbria, ItalyAfter a career in wine consulting, Guido Guardigli retired in 2000 and bought Perticaia, an estate not far from Montefalco in Casale, Umbria. This is the heartland of sagrantino, and this full bodied (15.5%) example was macerated and fermented over 1 month prior to 24-36 months' rest in larger barrels and French barriques. It waited an additional year in bottle prior to release. Full, dense, and potent, with baked cherry, leather, and baking spices across the tart, bitter edged palate. The wood tannins are still present and gritty, finishing with more baking spice and bitter cherry. A giant red requiring an equally robust protein food pairing (ideally including tomatoes).Tasted: 20 January 2024Tasted by: Treve RingPrices:
